Elder married Thomas Downey, son of (?) Downey, between 5 July 1870 and 31 December 1870 at Perry, OH; There is much to question about this couple; and each of them individually.

That the marriage occurred in 1870 is a fact recorded in Perry County. That the Hannah Elder is daughter of Thomas Elder and Ellen McLaughlin - and that Thomas Downey is the same individual who was in the dwelling in 1870 - I believe, is nearly certain, based on the evidence.

After 1870 there is nothing to be found about the two of them together.

It is clear that Hannah never took the name Downey - and all 3 of her children were Elder also.⁵ Hannah R. It is my assumption that it belongs to this Thomas Downey.⁵
