Researching
the Elders that came from Maryland and Pennsylvania to settle
in Perry Co., OH.
Two distinct lines of Elders from Maryland and
Pennsylvania are found in Perry Co., OH; one Catholic and one
Protestant. Many of these Elders also had connections in Fairfield
and Seneca Counties.
Special Thank you's are due to Sue Nason, Jim Brown,
Donna Logan (and her Elder Family Newsletters; 1993-1996), Helen
Costigan, Nancy Elder Peterson, Ann Denson, and Michael Miller
for all of their help.
1. William
Elder (1707-1775):
Married first Ann WHEELER then Jacoba LIVERS.
Catholic.
Of his many children's lines, at
least two came to Perry County: William, who married Sabina
WICKHAM and Charles, who married Julia WARD.
2. The three brothers who came to Perry
County from Maryland in 1818, according to the 1883
History of Fairfield and Perry Counties.
They are Protestants. The brothers are John (wife
Mary), Robert (wife
Susannah HAINES) and William
D. (wife Ann). The parents of these
Elders are unknown.
Note: There is an additional family; that of Jesse
Elder and Isabelle PUGH that has a Perry County Connection
but information about this family is scarce. It appears that
they are Protestant. More research may reveal a connection
to the three brothers, above.
