"The Bundy family, from its close and many connections with theStanton family, is one of special interest.
"It is hoped that some one will make a thorough investigation, andrecord the full history and genealogy of the Bundy family, which cannotbe attempted here.
"Tradition indicates that the family was in France in the EleventhCentury and probably takes its name from, or gives its name to theForest of Bondy; and that some members came to England in 1066, withthe Normans under William the Conqueror, as the name Bandy appears onthe battle rolls of some of the chiefs. It is probable that due tocarelessness or difference of pronunciation, the spelling was changedto Bundy.
"It appears they settled first in the rugged hills of Wales andlater moved to Yorkshire, England. Tradition also says that fivebrothers emigrated from York, England, and landed on the coast ofVirginia or North Carolina, and that one of the brothers becamedissatisfied and moved north to what is now known as New York State,and never returned. A family of Bundy's now located there resemblesthose from North Carolina and seems to confirm this tradition.
"While some of the early members were fierce warriors and whileseveral members volunteered for service in the Rebellion, the largemajority of the family has followed agriculture and the members earnedtheir living in peaceful way.
The family has generally occupied the middle walk of life - nogreat wealth and no members in poverty. The industry and thriftpracticed and their artistic, well-kept and substantial homes, seem topoint to a French ancestry, or at least to a strong admixture of thatblood."

Research: Information from a book by V. Mayom Bundy, "The Descendantsof William and Elizabeth Bundy of RI and NC". William and Elizabethwere evidently married in England. They came to Rhode Island and thento North Carolina in 1663. They had six children: Mary, Caleb,Benjamin, Hannah, William, and Samuel.

It is thought that William was a brother to John Bundy and son ofWilliam Bundy the Elder and Ellioner, his wife, of Wiltshire, England.William married a second time to Mary Pierce and they had one child.(From V. Mayo Bundy, 200 S. Elam Ave., Greensboro, NC27403--2/22/95. Mayo Bundy is the author of a book: "The Descendantsof William &
Elizabeth Bundy of RI and NC"--(out-of-print)).

William and Elizabeth purchased two hundred acres of land in what isnow South Kingston, Rhode Island, 1 May 1663. They sold this land on27 Oct 1663 and went to North Carolina.

William Bundy and eight other Friends were put in prison about thefourth or fifth month of 1680 for refusing to bear arms in themusterfield and remained in prison for about six months.

William served as the justice of a court held in the Precinct toPerquimans and also served as Justice of the Peace in 1690-92.

William married his second wife, Mary Scott Pierce at the home ofMary. William and Mary had two children: Sarah and Mary.

     Richard Breeze was born on 13 February 1811 at IN or IL. He was the son of Robert Breeze and Margaret Jane Copple. Richard Breeze married Louisa Gaston on 15 September 1831 at Marion, IL. Richard Breeze died on 15 March 1888 at IL at age 77.

     Louisa Gaston was born on 17 October 1815 at IL. She married Richard Breeze, son of Robert Breeze and Margaret Jane Copple, on 15 September 1831 at Marion, IL. As of 15 September 1831,her married name was Breeze. Louisa Gaston died circa 1850. She died on 8 May 1850 at age 34; 34y6m20d w/o Richard.¹ She was buried after 8 May 1850 at Little Grove Cemetery, Jefferson, IL.¹

     Harriet Breeze was born circa 1850. She was the daughter of Richard Breeze and Louisa Gaston.

     Margaret Breeze was born in 1832. She was the daughter of Richard Breeze and Louisa Gaston.

     William G Breeze was born in 1833. He was the son of Richard Breeze and Louisa Gaston.

     Esther Breeze was born in 1836. She was the daughter of Richard Breeze and Louisa Gaston.

     Nancy Breeze was born in 1846. She was the daughter of Richard Breeze and Louisa Gaston.

     Martha E Breeze was born in 1848. She was the daughter of Richard Breeze and Louisa Gaston.

     Jane Breeze was born on 11 October 1837. She was the daughter of Richard Breeze and Louisa Gaston.

     Robert Breeze was buried at Little Grove Cemetery. He was born on 19 May 1780. He was the son of Robert Breeze. Robert Breeze married Margaret Jane Copple, daughter of Jacob Peter Copple and Elizabeth Garren, circa 1808 at Clark, IN. Robert Breeze died on 5 December 1862 at age 82; 82y6m19d.¹
He was buried after 5 December 1862 at Little Grove Cemetery, Jefferson, IL.¹

     Margaret Jane Copple was born on 25 December 1791 at Rowan, NC. She was the daughter of Jacob Peter Copple and Elizabeth Garren. Margaret Jane Copple married Robert Breeze, son of Robert Breeze, circa 1808 at Clark, IN. As of circa 1808,her married name was Breeze. Margaret Jane Copple died on 17 November 1875 at Jefferson, IL, at age 83.

     Jacob Breeze was born on 7 April 1812. He was the son of Robert Breeze and Margaret Jane Copple.

     Elizabeth Breeze was born in 1814. She was the daughter of Robert Breeze and Margaret Jane Copple.

     John Breeze was born in 1816. He was the son of Robert Breeze and Margaret Jane Copple.

     Owen Breeze was born in 1817. He was the son of Robert Breeze and Margaret Jane Copple.

     Hannah Breeze was born in 1820. She was the daughter of Robert Breeze and Margaret Jane Copple.

     Robert Breeze was born in 1822. He was the son of Robert Breeze and Margaret Jane Copple.

     Henry Breeze was born in 1823. He was the son of Robert Breeze and Margaret Jane Copple.

     James Breeze was born in 1825. He was the son of Robert Breeze and Margaret Jane Copple.
