The earliest known Gaines of this group is James E. Gaines (c1832-a1880), who married Mary Ann Seymour (c1836-a1880). They were married 24 Mar 1853 in Vinton Co., OH and lived in Illinois and Ohio. I've seen various references to Indiana but have yet to identify any sources for this information.
